The Covenant Fringe: Yonhet, Dazreme, Sharquoi, and Hidden Peoples
The Covenant was always larger than the species most commonly seen on its battlefields. Around its formal hierarchies existed fringe communities, client peoples, hidden species, isolated populations, and beings whose exact relationship with the empire could vary from trade and exploitation to military use. This episode examines lesser-known groups such as the Yonhet, Dazreme, and Sharquoi while also asking how much of Covenant space remains poorly documented from a human perspective. Some peoples interacted with the empire through commerce or peripheral administration rather than mass military service. Others were treated as specialized assets, curiosities, labor sources, or potential weapons. Their limited visibility in the Human-Covenant War should not be mistaken for absence from Covenant history. An empire spanning vast regions of space inevitably contained more diversity than its frontline armies revealed. Studying the fringe shows how incomplete UNSC intelligence could be and reminds us that the Covenant was not merely seven familiar species marching under one banner.
