Escharum, Jega ’Rdomnai, and the Banished Old Guard
Escharum and Jega ’Rdomnai represent the veteran culture surrounding Atriox and the military traditions that give the Banished more depth than one charismatic founder. Escharum is Atriox’s old mentor, a Jiralhanae war chief whose age and illness do little to reduce his appetite for battle. Jega is a Sangheili blademaster and Spartan killer who abandons many traditional restrictions of honor while remaining fiercely loyal to the commanders he respects. This episode examines their roles during the occupation of Zeta Halo after Infinity’s defeat. Escharum turns the surviving UNSC resistance into both a military problem and the final campaign through which he hopes to secure a worthy death. Jega hunts Spartans and becomes one of his most dangerous instruments. Their relationship illustrates Banished loyalty at its most personal: neither serves because a Prophet promises transcendence.
