Operation CHARLEMAGNE and Operation TREBUCHET

The early Insurrection forced the UNSC to move from scattered security operations toward organized counterinsurgency campaigns. Operation CHARLEMAGNE targeted separatist forces around Eridanus and became an important early demonstration of both conventional military power and the newly revived ORION supersoldiers. Operation TREBUCHET grew into a much broader effort against rebel movements across multiple colonies. This episode examines how those campaigns combined fleet actions, Marine deployments, raids, intelligence operations, and targeted attacks on insurgent leadership. Tactical victories often removed bases or commanders without solving the grievances that had produced rebellion in the first place. Eridanus became especially important because forces under Robert Watts survived major defeats and continued operating from hidden positions beyond easy UNSC reach. Counterinsurgency therefore became a war of intelligence as much as firepower. CHARLEMAGNE and TREBUCHET showed that the UEG possessed enormous military strength, but they also demonstrated how difficult it was to force political loyalty onto populations spread across entire star systems.
