Who Can Rule the Post-Covenant Galaxy?
The Covenant’s collapse did not produce one successor powerful enough to replace it. Instead, the galaxy fractured among governments, military alliances, religious movements, warlords, artificial intelligences, criminal networks, and surviving ancient powers. This episode compares the leading contenders for influence. The UEG and UNSC possess industrial capacity and military experience but remain weakened by decades of war and the Created uprising. The Swords of Sanghelios offer a possible Sangheili political order but do not command every keep or former Covenant faction. The Banished possess expanding military power without a conventional model of galactic government. Created remnants, independent colonies, religious successor states, and emerging threats such as the Endless further complicate the balance. The central question may therefore be wrong. The post-Covenant galaxy may be too politically diverse for another empire to rule without recreating the coercion that destroyed the last one. The future may belong not to whoever conquers the galaxy, but to whoever can build alliances strong enough to survive it. Visit ImaginedBattlefield.com for more military and science fiction.
